President's Message

Thomas McCambridge

I am honored and privileged to be elected to serve as president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. I would like to offer a special thanks and acknowledgement to our outgoing president Stephanie Cullum, who served as our president for the past three years. Stephanie has made significant contributions to our Chamber during her term as president and will continue to do so by remaining on our Board and Executive Committee as immediate past president.
I would also like to acknowledge the tireless effort and support of our Executive Director,Dennis Donnelly and Assistant Director, Elizabeth Denby.
As a board member since 2007 and representative of the Executive Committee for the past several years, I have acquired a distinct perspective on the framework of the largest independant Chamber on Long Island that is second to none!
I am excited to lead our distinguished Officers and Board of Directors in our mission to continue to strive to be a great resource for our membership, business community and residents of our wonderful Village.
It’s truly an exciting time for our Chamber. My goals and objectives are to lead our efforts in various new projects which include:
• Restructure the Chamber’s Standing Committees. Utilize the knowledge and talent of our dynamic Board of Directors to lead effective and accountable committees that are aligned with the Chamber’s mission and the business community;
• Advance the Chamber’s Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure: Includes a new Chamber website, which will improve our communications and business operations. Chamber members will have access to new and improved ways to promote their respective
• Enhance the Chamber’s Voluntary and Charitable Projects by providing financial support to community members in need and provide scholarships to deserving Garden City High School Seniors and other causes through the Chamber Foundation.
I look forward to collaborating with our Board, Members, Village
officials and community members. Together, we can continue to keep Garden City the jewel of Long Island.

2016 Update

The Garden City Chamber Board of Directors is happy to report that 2016 has been another successful year!

In addition to our annual favorites, which include the Easter Car Parade, Fall Festival Street Fair and the Village Tree Lighting, as well as our luncheon program and Pineapple Ball, the Chamber has added:

The Belmont Festival  An annual event which is held the Friday night before the Belmont Stakes Race at Belmont Park. The event is open to all and draws thousands of people from Garden City and surrounding towns. The event is highlighted by the media and local papers.
Summer Friday Night Promenades  Every Friday night during the summer, Seventh Street is closed to allow pedestrians to enjoy our fine restaurants with outdoor dining, wonderful music and entertainment for young and old alike.

Garden City Chamber Golf Outing  A tremendously successful event, played at one of our local country clubs and providing a wonderful opportunity so spend a day and evening with many Chamber members and guests.
Chow Down with the Chamber  This new program initiated in 2016 and held at the new senior center, in conjunction with the GC Recreation Department, provides our seniors with a free lunch once a month. These lunches are provided by our local restaurants.

Professional  Networking Breakfasts This extremely successful  program  is designed  to give  professionals who work  in and around Garden City a networking venue.

Christmas Spectacular   As a follow up to our Friday Night Promenades, the Christmas Spectacular also closes Seventh Street and allows pedestrians to enjoy warm fire drums down Seventh Street, carolers, Santa Claus, a hay ride, a bouncy castle, face painter and free hot cocoa for all.
Adopt-a-Lamppost  The Chamber initiated this event thanks to an agreement with the Village. Lampposts were available for adoption along Seventh Street and families and businesses decorated the lampposts making for

a very festive Seventh Street. A nominal fee was required which was distributed to our local charities.
Website Participation Our newly designed website allows our members to have an active portal to their own section of the site. Through this portal they are able to offer "hot deals" not only to other members, but to all Chamber website and Facebook viewers. A member may also add events, meetings or job postings to the website.
All of our Chamber events give our members an opportunity promote their business through participation and sponsorships.  Please don't let this opportunity pass you by and renew your Chamber membership today!
