This medieval castle-like structure was built in 1876 to house the then modern Holly System of pumps. Located next to it was Garden City’s first well. Being fifty feet wide and forty feet deep, it was the largest well on Long Island with water good enough to bottle. Today that well is gone but this building remains as a control center for Garden City’s elaborate system of pumps and wells.
